  • 1.  Software to enhance quality of Low Resolution Pics for Large Format

    Posted 02-01-2017 07:53 AM
Hi Recently a customer brought in a 300dpi pic that was about 2.125" x 1.5" and not real good quality   they wanted the poster 18" x 24".  When we blew the pic up to that size it was very pixilated.  We told them it would not look good.  They took the job to a FastSigns shop and had them done and they turned out real nice.  Is anyone aware of software that might enhance art for enlarging or is there a trick we are unaware of?  Thanks for your help.. cp

There are many tutorials on the internet showing how to use Photoshop to up sample a small image for Poster Size Printing.
There are also stand alone applications and Plugin software to automate the process.

Perhaps they did what we call re-ressing a file in photo shop and then created an eps file from the ps file.

Going back a few years (back to my prepress days), we used a product called Genuine Fractals for any enlargements above 200%. It appears that product may now be called ON1 Resize 10.5

Here is a link to what I was able to find:

    Download ON1 Resize 10.5 - ON1, Inc.
    On1 remove preview
    Download ON1 Resize 10.5 - ON1, Inc.
    View this on On1 >

A program called Qimage does a good job. I would say it doesn't enhance (make image better).
But it will enlarge it without letting it get worse.

I agree that the Genuine Fractals software (Now On1) works quite well. That being said, the newest versions of Photoshop have really improved their resampling tools. If you don't have the latest updates, it's well worth it to update.
