As you may know, OGR successfully reported HR 756 out of committee with strong bi-partisan support (only 1 negative vote). We now need to move this bill to the House floor for overwhelming approval and then move it to the Senate before the legislative calendar gets too crowded.

I've attached a document that contains updated talking points you can use to communicate with your respective members of the House and Senate.

Also, Idealliance partnered with NPES last week holding a legislative conference and fly-in on Capitol Hill. A day of policy briefings related to our primary focus areas (postal reform, pro-manufacturing tax policies, health care reform, and regulatory reform) prepared attendees for the following day of over 60 meetings with members of both the House and Senate.
Important work was done to educated Congress on the importance of an industry supply chain that supports 7.5 million jobs and contributes $1.4 trillion in annual GDP.
To my knowledge no one received push-back on HR 756 during our House meetings.

It would be great to see more Idealliance members participate in next year's fly-in?

Send questions and/or comments my way.

    Thanks.

Ken, great work, I support it all, thank you.

One question: under this proposed legislation, what would happen to the $billions that are already on the books that at USPS owes for future retiree benefits that it has not been able to pay for several years now?

    Thanks,

    Best, Marty

    Marty,

Great question. The answer is that the migration of postal retirees to Medicare would eliminate the accumulated pre-funding debt from the USPS' balance sheet. Cleaning up the balance sheet is critically important given the PRC's current rate review process. A clean balance sheet would make it less likely that rate payers will be expected to bear a disproportionate responsibility in eliminating current debt.

    Thanks.

    Ken
