You may want to look at some different composition techniques. Possible leverage PDF/VT or JLYT output file formats. Might also need to consider some third part tools like XMPie, FusionPro or GMC - just to name a few...

Are you outputting and composing from in design or are you using another variable data software?

Subject: HP Indigo 3500 and Variable Data
We are running an HP Indigo 3500 and it works like a gem for small jobs or ones that don't have a large file upload. We are having issues with loading files that either have a lot of variable data or many versions. We often have jobs that are 20,000 records or more with 10 or more fields of variable data, and a lot of images. To complicate it even more we can have 5 or more layers in InDesign to create different versions of the output based on the data.
We have been creating subsets of the output to send to the press and even then it can take hours to RIP. Does anyone else experience this? Do you have any suggestions on improving the RIP time?
