The following represents a brief summary of our association's advocacy activity -

    S.3464

Our support of this bill represents the association's commitment to expanding its legislative focus in response to the results of our Public Policy Survey completed last month. Our new legislative focus areas include -

    • Postal / Mailing
    • Labor practices
    • Health insurance

    S. 3464 falls under our "labor practices" category and is related to the Department of Labor ruling that dramatically changed the compensation thresholds for overtime. This ruling would impose significant labor cost increases when our industry is still struggling to recover from a deep and prolonged recession while also being challenged by staggering increases in health insurance premiums. The bill seeks to delay the impact of the ruling by spreading the impact over a 5-year period, and requiring a complete review and assessment after the first year. Please review the attached letter of support for S.3464 Idealliance sent to Lamar Alexander, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions. A copy was also sent to three original co-sponsors, Senators Lankford (R-OK), Scott (R-SC) and Flake (R-AZ).

On the postal front H.R. 5714 (covered in previous posts) continues to be stalled waiting for CBO to issue a "score" to the bill. Activity and progress will likely pick up during lame duck. I'll send updates as the activity with this postal bill resumes.

Finally, the C-21 Coalition (Idealliance is an Executive Committee member) is considering organizing and executing a "Postal Day" on November 17. This would involve members contacting their respective members of both Houses to voice their support for passage of H.R. 5714. No final decision has been made related to this event. Again, I'll keep you posted.

Don't hesitate to contact me with any comments or questions.

    Thank you for your engagement.
