  • 1.  Data Back UP

Looking for source for data (customer files back up)
I currently have 3 tarabits of data that we switch on drives and take home and switch out each evening.
My printsmith and quickbooks are backed up on carbonite in the cloud each night.

Easy solution and economical for 3 tarabits to put in the cloud?

I do a tandem approach when it comes to backups,  I use Carbonite Business (encrypted) and as well my Synology Diskstation (encrypted),  for a quick restore I can go to the Diskstation but if the building burns down I can go to Carbonite and have them overnight to me my backup files on external media as a last resort.

Carbonite can go as big as you are willing to pay, it would not be a "cheap" way to backup 3 terabytes of data but I have had other cheaper backup providers go belly up and I lost all my data (thank goodness for encryption).  I also pick and choose which customers data I backup to Carbonite, some data can be recovered from the customer since most of the time our customers are not paying for us to house their data.

Another thought to keeping your costs low is if you have another secure building with power and network to your main facility you could setup a backup server in that building.  It would be pretty easy to setup (2) Synology devices to mirror each other.

We've had tremendous success with Backblaze : https://www.backblaze.com/cloud-backup-ad.html?gclid=CIPHmeDuwdECFUiBswodB-8C2Q#1056 , Including a recovered TB after a server crash. Cost effective, great support in case of a crash, clean and easy web interface. Definitely agree with Mr. Dykes on  local backup + an online.

We use iDrive. 2.5TB will run about $600 per year. iDrive is similar to Carbonite. Why not use Carbonite? iDrive has a plan where they will ship you a drive so the initial back up can be done onsite and much faster. You ship the drive back and once they have your files on their server you simply do incremental backups going forward. I have found iDrive to be stable and the interface is very intuitive. It looks like just another drive on your network.
