  • 1.  HARWILL follow up reports after a mailing SEND or DON'T SEND?

Just finished up a couple of mailings and wanted opinions on sending reports. Is the common practice to send the NCOA and undeliverable reports?

You should absolutely send the NCOA changes to your client in addition to the reports. There may be a larger conversation here but your clients probably don’t have a deep understanding or their data and how it should be managed.  One of the artifacts of mailing are move update results, if new address changes are not updated in your clients system of record eventually the NCOA process will not achieve the results your clients are expecting.

For instance, if you run 18 month NCOA and the record is not updated on your client’s side in the 19th month the record will no longer be flagged as a COA and will be sent to the wrong address as long as the record remains in your clients database.  At that point you’ve either created a return mail problem if you’re mailing 1st class or you’ve created a trash problem for the USPS, since it’s likely that’s where marketing /standard mail will end up if addresse incorrectly .

I agree, wholeheartedly, with Scott. It is important that your client has all of the information they can in order to make informed decisions about how to manage their database and plan their next mailings. Providing them this information can open up whole new discussions and enable you to become a trusted adviser and partner.

You should always be as transparent as possible and that includes all things good, bad, and in between.

    Cheers,
    Marc
