I'm thinking of getting a new Xerox Versant 80 or a Ricoh 5200? What do you recommend?

We have been looking at an additional Digital Press and it looks like we are going with the Xerox Versant 80 press. Please let us know what one you purchase.

We too just started looking at replacing our older color copier.  In addition to the Xerox and Ricoh, we are looking into Canon (850) and KM (2070) too.  Have you elimated these for some reason?

Hank our organization has two 800 series Canon units and I will warn you to do your homework before going down that road. They were good production devices out of the starting block up to about 1 Million images each. Following that milestone we've experienced nothing but issues week after week. If you are looking for high volume 250,000+ per month I would not recommend Canon. We also have 6 Ricoh (3 color & 3 Black) units which I would highly recommend. Uptime and reliability on the Ricoh devices is exceptional.

We also have a canon 800, but it's a secondary machine to the 10,000 which is a total work horse. In less than a year we've put over 650,000 click on it with just minor issues that have been taken care of very quickly. Color and registration are unbelievable compared to the Xerox and Konica machines I've used in the past. There is also an 8000 series which is basically the same as the 10,000 but without the speed boost module.

As with any major purchase, do homework and make sure to "test" them. My boss took our toughest projects and had Ricoh, Xerox and Canon all run the same job so we could compare quality. Then a couple weeks later had them do it again to see if the colors would still match.

We just got one on the Konica Minolta Accurio c2070 after being a long time Xerox customer. The macine print quality is great. It does have one quark in it with the Fiery. When you send envlopes to print you have to change the machine to metric. The support I have gotten figuring that out was outstanding. The c2070 will also run the Hurst smart plates where the Xerox machines jam on them. I looked at the Versant machines and even did some training on the Fiery for another shop the quality is great on them also. In my area xerox have some of these small 3rd party companies while Konica actually has a physical location that if the macine goes down I always have the opportunity to go to their show room and run jobs there.
If you have any questions feel free to message me.

Konica c2070 as well as Ricoh I can provide a detailed performance report if needed. We have both in our office.

We have been running Canon at my shop for years and have had good luck with them, until our 800. Canon was very responsive and fixed the issue, however the 800 is not a production machine like the 8000
If you are going to go with Canon, look at the 8000. I've not had experience with Ricoh but have a few friends in the industry who absolutely love them. Quality is on par with Canon and Xerox. Retail price is lower and clicks can be cheaper as well.

We have a Xerox Versant 2100 and love it. It's a real workhorse for us, and Xerox Support is there PDQ when we need them (and that is not too often).  I couldn't tell you if it is better than Ricoh because we don't have a Ricoh and I am not familiar with the brand. But I will tell you we love our Xerox Versant 2100 and Xerox Support.

We have had the Versant 80 for just about a year now, and have nothing but good things to say about it. Quality has been great, and reliability excellent - several times we have gone for two months without any service calls! We do a wide variety of work and this includes envelopes.

Speed is one factor as media weight increases. Is there a need for oversize or wrap around covers. I have compared both as well as the Konica c2070.

We have a Canon C800 and Put rite around 100,000 clicks per month on it. Mostly 12 x 18 with some 13 x 19 sprinkled in, with a good Mix of Coated and un-coated substrates. I really don't have any complaints other than registration, and even that is just nit picking. As long as we align trays once a month it's not much of a problem.
From my experience, most of these machines can do the Job very well, with each Brand having it's own Plus and Minuses. The most important aspect being your service tech. The Machine is only as good as it's Tech. I would suggest meeting the Tech before signing on the dotted line. Grill him a bit about your needs and expectations and you should get a good Idea about his personality, commitment to his craft and it will help build a relationship.

A hard black and white answer, I'd go with the Ricoh over the Xerox
