  • 1.  MAiling Standards Change

    Good Morning,

Wondering if anyone else may have posed and received a response to the question below from the USPS.

With the price change effective January 22nd, a new standard will be implemented for First-class and standard mail letters that eliminates the 3 digit rate category and sort level.

If a mailings is presorted under current presort parameters and begins mailing before the 22nd but does not complete until after how will the mailing be handled that contains 3 digit level sorted trays?

Currently 3 digit sort is the same price as the AADC pieces but the pieces are not sorted to the AADC level.

How will these containers will be handled and will postal one accept mail.dat updates that include a 3 digit sortation level after the 22nd?

    TIA

There was some discussion around this on a MTAC Work Group call last week.

It was noted that the 3-digit sortation level is currently optional.

So if anyone has a job that they believe has any chance of crossing over the January 22nd date, then they should turn the 3-digit sortation level off.

As noted below the 3-digit and ADC price is the same so there would be no postage impact to making this change.

One other item to keep in mind in regards to drop shipping.

If the mailing is verified and paid for prior to January 22nd, mailers have until Feb 8th for those jobs to be officially entered into a Postal Facility

    Thanks Bob.

On that same MTAC call, the elimination of the FSS price categories was also discussed, which also has the potential to cause issues.

As you suggest, Bob, it is best if mailers can make these adjustments in advance during the presort process. However, if mailers have mailings that are physically prepared under the old standards, with the old price categories in the Mail.dat files, for mailings submitted on or after January 22, either in whole or partial, they will need to work with their Business Service Network Analyst for the workaround to get these mailings accepted. It was not made clear on that call what those workarounds will be.
