  • 1.  ISO 13655 A.3 White Backing?

    Posted 11-20-2017 04:57 PM

    Is anyone aware of someone who supplies white backing material that would be in compliance with ISO 13655 A.3?  We are interested in finding someone that produces paper sheets or white tiles that would be in compliance.

    Matt, this from https://www.xrite.com/-/media/xrite/files/literature/misc/f/faq_for_pantonelive_users_with_inkformulation_en.pdf

    • For transparent or transluscent materials, please use Munsell backing material behind measured

      samples (which is compliant with ISO 13655:2009 Annex A.3) and available from X-Rite in either A4 or A3 size and quantities of 12 or 52 sheets.

    Kind regards,

    I have checked X-Rites web site but I cannot locate any information on the Backing Paper.

    Does anyone have a direct link, in order to purchase or research this?

    Unfortunately, X-Rite has taken a red-headed step-son approach to the venerable Munsell products.  They acquired the Munsell division along with the acquisition of the Gretag-Macbeth company.  But they have never really developed a marketing plan.  Currently, if you want Munsell products you order them from the Pantone.com website.  But the products are not easy to find.  The ISO 13655 conforming white backing substrate is really just a single sheet of Munsell N 9.25 and comes in either 8.5 x 11 or A4 sizes.  This material is a white automotive grade paint applied to a paper substrate.  At this point, I think that a call to the Pantone order desk is the best solution to acquiring some backing papers.

    But you may also want to check your paper supplier.  There are some SBS boards which can meet the ISO 13655 requirements at a significant lower price per sheet.

    To Danny's last point;
    I've been using a couple of sheets of Leneta 3NT-31 as white and black backing if you don't want to bother with pantone. Buy it by the pad, pretty cheap.
