  • 1.  Wondering if anybody has ideas what might cause a print issue?

The message below was posted on the Idealliance Open Forum:

As of recently we are having an odd printing issue where the stroke we add for a bleed around our print files is showing up behind the art darker than the art should be. We are seeing this only in black and only on our Roland printers. I wonder if this is an issue with the print files or if it is being misread in the rip? Has anybody seen this happen before?

    Thanks,
    Nick

Might be a long shot depending on which RIP you're using but perhaps it supports preserve pure color/clean color and that feature is enabled?

Some inksets print a richer back as pure K and some are better as a mix. My Rolands were 6c through Wasatch and Caldera RIP and a 60/40/40100 mixture yielded a better black for me...but my Dursts are better with a K only black.

If you have even a few points of another color in your bleed stroke or art layer, the RIP will pick it up and the blacks can look different.

Not sure what else it could be - have you tried flattening the art or expanding the stroke before ripping to see if that makes a difference? Any effects in the art that might not be flattening properly, especially if you're saving as a PDF?

Both the stroke and the fill are set to 100% K. We are stuck using Versaworks for the rip on these printers. This just started happening in about the last month or so and its only on random files. Thats what has me confused. Im wondering if it might be an issue with illustrator saving the pdfs or something possibly but not sure.
