  • 1.  Bookletmakers - Duplo versus Standard Horizon

    Posted 04-04-2016 11:14 AM

I am looking to purchase a used, but fairly current Bookletmaker with twin towers. I have seen quite a few Duplo's and Horizon models for sale, and am curious about which one to pursue. Any recommendations or reviews would be appreciated!

You can contact Tompkins Printing Equipment. Close to you and sells used equipment. I highly recommend.

I've had a couple of Horizon's. I would recommend them only if you get the VAC100 towers and not the older MC-8 towers. The friction fed MC-8's were good in their day but the later vacuum fed VAC100's are far better feeders. I've found even the older stitch, fold SPF11's and trimmers work great with the newer VAC100's too as long as they've been cared for and not all beat up.

Thanks Stephen and Jeff, and also Craig & Tim. Some good input here! And Jeff - we actually have an appointment tomorrow at Tompkins Equipment to  see what they have on hand.

    Hi Rick,

If you were to talk with our lead bindery guy, Tim Martin, he would tell you that he's run both Duplo and Horizon. Back in the day, we had QuarkXpress and PageMaker leap-frogging each other with each new release...the same could be said for Duplo & Horizon over the years. We've had two Duplo 20 bin systems over the past 28 years and our System 10000 still works darned well given how many booklets have been made on it. (We wore the first one out and it needed rebuilt). Give Tim a call at 541-344-4062 for a candid assessment of both systems. He'll be a good help.
