  • 1.  Portable CMYK Color Monitor

    Posted 12-02-2020 12:36 PM
    Good afternoon.

I'm looking for solutions where I can take a iPad, iMac, or laptop on press and download accurate CMYK color.  I'd like to be able to apply the apropriate Reference Print Condition to the files I'm trying to view portably.  I realize there are color accurate monitors for PC's using Matchprint Virtual, etc.  What color accurate solutions are there for laptops or tablets??

    Greetings,

One of my students (Robby T.) recently told me about this product - which I have not used.

I'm not endorsing or promoting it. It says it was invented for interior decorating. It sounds like it is either a colorimeter or spectrophotometer and is capable of representing and translating color values.
    It sounds promising.

    Best wishes,
    Barb

These are filter colorimeters, similar in concept to the Variable ColorMuse that is very popular with the home decorator market and seen at many trade shows in the packaging printing market segment.

The primary interface is a smart phone or tablet and the data for searching are maintained in the cloud.  The typical use-case is to take a reading and then the phone or tablet software searches known palettes to tell you what paint matches the measured color.

I did not see Richard's inquiry at first.  To do what you request, you will need a library of known accurate printed CMYK values.  Then the Nix QC would allow you to upload that library and test against it.
With the Nix QC App you are able to select your reference color from an imported library. Importing libraries can be done in a few easy steps.

I believe that MeasureColor has a version of the ColorMuse that has the same ability.  It is called MeasureColor Mobile.

MeasureColor Mobile is a color measurement solution consisting of a small device to capture surface colors and an app to view results.
