    Posted 04-01-2019 02:47 PM

    Hello everyone –

Is anyone having difficulty with inkjetting IMB bars and the fact that the bars become too wide?

We use GMC software, and they basically have one font for the barcode. We want to narrow the width of the bars by a smidge so when there is dot gain... the bars don't get too wide.

    Anyone else faced with this?

If so, how are you handling it?

    Thanks

    Kerry

Dot gain can be effected by the printing device and paper.

The settings required for our programmers for IMB:

23.9 Characters per inch and we normally set bar codes to align to Pixels.

The reason we set the CPI is that we set our IMB to be just over the minimum size required by USPS.  This will always keep our bar code in the window if using a window envelope.

The simplest thing might be to just make a copy of the intelligent mail barcode font and then edit it and make the barcode characters narrower.  I think there are only 4 characters that you would need to edit.  https://fontforge.github.io/en-US/ is an open source font editor, and there are many more that are paid that work well.

I do not currently use it but we have a satori font, SatIMLight.ttf which they describe as:

Lighter to avoid overspray during inkjet printing. The required font size is 16 point.

Check your settings and look for one called "barcode shaving". Not sure if you have that, but with the JetEngine software you can set by paper type (coated, uncoated, etc.) or by a percentage to get the thickness correct.
