We are a G7 certified commercial printer with 6 color 40" presses. I'm just wondering which Epson model to replace my 9900 the P9000 Commercial Edition or the Standard Edition. I understand I can match more PMS Colors with the Violet on the Commercial edition, but what am I losing in with the removal of the Light Light Black?

We just replaced 9900 with P9000 last year. We chose to go with Lt Lt Black instead of Violet. Thinking perhaps better highlight detail vs PMS matching. Just our preference. Our profile "dumbs down" our printer, we do not want to print more vibrant that the press can do.

In most cases, locations like yourself will replace their Stylus Pro 9900 printer with the P9000SE, or Standard Edition.  These locations felt that retaining a similar color gamut was the most suitable approach.  The Px000SE or Standard Edition was introduced with CMYKOG and light inks with Matte Black, Photo Black, light and light light Black ink.  The CE or Commerical Edition was released with CMYKOGV and light inks, removing the light light Black ink and replacing it with Violet.  Photographers and Commerical printers seem to prefer the Standard Edition, where locations requiring a higher level of spot, named or Pantone equivalents prefer the Commerical Edition.

As far as neutral gray balance goes, both printers can easily achieve the desired result.
