  • 1.  Applications for G7 and SCTV calculation?

    Posted 04-15-2024 02:26 PM

What commercially available applications (other than Curve4) are out there for calculating G7 curves and SCTV curves?

I'm particularly interested in applications that will calc SCTV curves from multi-channel CGATS rather than the inelegant solution of remapping spot ink channels into the CMYK channels of a P2P target. When linearizing a CMYK+extra ink channels print engine, it's very cumbersome to create (at least) two charts so all ink channels can be measured...and then take the results and merge them back to a single CGATS file.

Just curious  what options, if any, are out there today. Options that support multiple file formats, other than CGATS, would be a bonus.

    Hello Terence,

Please find here a list of Idealliance certified G7 Systems.

There are currently more than 25 systems that are verified and certified by Idealliance, through independent third-party verification by Idealliance and RIT's Printing Application Lab (PAL), for the ability of a software system to calibrate a printing device to meet the G7 grayscale definition using four 1-D curves and support the application of the G7 methodology in process control.

I would encourage you to reach out to these vendors (or they may even do so when they see your question here among the G7 Open community) to verify the additional capabilities you mentioned regarding SCTV and data file format. My hope is this list will be a good starting point for you.

    Thank you,

Hi Jordan, I think you misunderstood what I'm asking.
I'm interested in 3rd party stand-alone software applications that can create (not just verify) G7 and/or SCTV curves and export them for use in RIPs/DFEs.

I'll check out the list and see what's there.

    Hey Terry,

ColorLogic ColorAnt v10 does this very nicely. It's a very useful, and capable, product that I think every person who is serious about color should have in their toolbox.
